Teachers are working on a consultative model approach to professional development this year. The consultative model is an approach to professional development that recognizes the fact that Mt. Ararat teachers are no longer novice in terms of technology use. After several years of teacher and student participation in the Maine Learning Technology Initiative one-to-one laptop program, teachers are poised to use technology integration as an instructional tool at a more advanced level. Teachers are using the consultative model to identify effective web-based practices for vocabulary instruction. Effective vocabulary instruction is one of the most vital components of instruction in all content areas and is fundamental in advancing the literacy levels of all students.
